FRESNO, Calif. - The Colorado State women's golf team opened the spring season on Monday at the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at the 6,004-yard Copper River Country Club. The Rams closed Round 1 in possession of 12th place in the field of 16.
"We played in horrible conditions during our practice round (Sunday), so today it was a completely different course," said Head Coach Angie Hopkins. "Overall, I thought that our team did a good job handling the two extremes, especially in the short game where I felt that we played well today."
Junior Stefanie Ferguson led the Rams, shooting a 3-over-par 75 to finish in a tie for 18th. Ferguson recorded a pair of birdies on the day, on the Par-4 fourth and 12th holes.
Freshman Kayley Kempton finished one stroke behind Ferguson in a tie for 28th, while sophomore Kasey Claussen also carded a pair of birdies on the day to finish 5-over-par in a tie for 34th.
Freshman Cecilia Edlund and sophomore Natalie Stone finished at 10-over-par and 11-over-par, respectively, in Round 1.
The Rams close out the tournament on Tuesday. Stone will be the first Ram to tee off at 9:04 a.m. PT. Track the Rams' progress on www.GolfStat.com
