TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Colorado State women's golf team completed play at the MountainView Collegiate in 15th place at the Par-72, 6,126-yard MountainView Golf Course. The Rams battled windy conditions throughout the first round of action on Saturday, and again on Sunday, firing a three-round total of 922 (310-305-307).
"I was pleased with the way we played, given the windy condition on the course," said Head Coach Angie Hopkins. "With Stefanie (Ferguson) withdrawing from the third round with a sprained foot, I thought that the rest of the team really stepped up. Stefanie played through the pain on Saturday, but we decided to withdraw her during the final nine holes so get ready for our next tournament."
With Ferguson - the Rams' leader in stroke average - out of action, sophomore Natalie Stone stepped up for the Rams and carded a team-low in Round 3 with a 75 (+3), improving six strokes over her first two rounds of the tournament and finishing in a tie for 76th.
Sophomore Kasey Claussen led the Rams after firing a 73 (+1) in Round 2, matching her Round 1 output of 77 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 38th. Freshman Kayley Kempton also matched her first-round score on Sunday, finishing one stroke behind Stone in the final 18. Kempton tied for 61st with a three-round total of 232 (76-80-76). Freshman Cecilia Edlund tied for 65th. After carding a season-low 74 in Round 2, Edlund fired a 79 in Round 3 and finished one stroke off of Kempton's pace.
The Rams will be back in action at the BYU Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah, and hope to be back at full strength with Ferguson returning to the course in time for Tuesday's opening-round.
