FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's tennis team will play host to No. 38 Iowa Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness.

Over the weekend, the Rams (3-2, 0-0 MWC) competed in their first home match of 2008. The team swept doubles play and won five singles matches in its 6-1 win over Gonzaga. The week previous, the squad traveled to El Paso, Texas, where it defeated UTEP, 4-3.

In recent matches, the Rams have continued to see several players step up to the plate. Freshman Caitlin Fluegge is 4-0 in dual play (10-4 overall), competing at No. 6 singles. After a rough start, junior Lauren Strasburger looks to be returning to her winning ways. In the Rams' last two matches, Strasburger is 2-0 in both singles and doubles. Senior Hilary Tyler, who transferred from Iowa after her sophomore year, has won two of her last three singles matches. She also brings two consecutive doubles victories, alongside Strasburger, into Friday's match.

Entering the match against Iowa with two consecutive wins, the Rams will face their first nationally ranked opponent of the season.

"Iowa is one of the best teams we'll play all year," commented Head Coach Jon Messick. "This will be our first opportunity to see where we stack up against the best teams in the country."

The Iowa Hawkeyes are currently ranked No. 38 in the ITA collegiate rankings and hold a perfect 7-0 record. Senior Milica Veselinovic leads the squad with a 13-4 singles record and has yet to lose a singles match in dual play. In doubles, the Hawkeyes' No. 1 doubles tandem of freshman Alexis Dorr and senior Jacqueline Lee hold a 13-4 record.

Facing Iowa in the spring of 2006, the Rams managed to defeat the Hawkeyes' No. 1 singles player, but dropped the match 6-1.

"I think we have a deeper lineup than we did two years ago," said Messick. "We're anxious to do better this year."

The match is set for 7:30 p.m. at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness, located at 901 Oakridge Dr. (970/282-1000). Admission is free.
