FORT COLLINS -- The Colorado State women's golf team kicks off a strong fall schedule when CSU hosts the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic Sept. 8-9 in Fort Collins.  Nineteen Division I women’s collegiate golf teams have accepted Colorado State’s invitation to participate.

This is the 11th year for CSU and Ptarmigan Country Club to host the tournament, according to CSU Head Coach Angie Hopkins. She said the tournament is a favorite of women’s golf programs across the country due to the competitive field and unequaled generosity of the Ptarmigan members.

“All 95 collegiate golfers and 25 coaches stay in private housing during the tournament and practice round,” said Hopkins.  “For three days the Ptarmigan community literally opens it doors to golfers from North Carolina to California.

She added some families have hosted the same teams for nearly a decade.

“It’s not unusual for host families to stay in contact with players and coaches who have stayed in their homes,” she said.  “Many receive graduation announcements and wedding invitations from young women who they met years earlier as freshmen.”

Play begins Monday, Sept. 8, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Participants play 36 holes Monday and play the final 18-hole round Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Hopkins said spectators are invited to attend either or both days. Admission is free.

“The Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic is our only home event of the year,” Hopkins said.  “It’s a great opportunity for the community to see some excellent Division I women’s golf and, of course, support the Rams.”
