ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Facing two juggernauts on opening day proved tough for the CSU Rams water polo team Saturday at the Michigan Kickoff tournament.
The Rams lost to Arizona State, 20-5, and Michigan 12-0, who are ranked eighth and 10th in the country, respectively. Arizona State's 20 goals were the second most ever allowed in a single game by the Rams, and both losses were two of the biggest in team history.
Emily Chambers and Orsi Nadasdy each scored two goals against the Sun Devils, and Ali Pavlik added another for the Rams' only scoring on the day.
Against Michigan, the Rams got caught down 5-0 after the first period and could never quite get things together. Nadasdy had six shots, and the team had a total of 16 against the Wolverines in the loss.
The Rams continue action Sunday, facing Bucknell in Game 1 and Indiana in Game 2. Both teams also finished the day with two losses. Fans can follow the scores of the Rams and all other teams in the tournament at http://www.mgoblue.com/water-polo-w/article.aspx?id=161724.
