U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Colorado State men’s indoor track and field team had a strong showing on Saturday afternoon at the Don Barrett Air Force Duals, held at the Air Force Academy.
In the dual format, the Rams defeated each of their four opponents (Air Force, Colorado, Northern Colorado and Wyoming) and captured four individual event wins. Wil Buchanan (800-meter run), Jake Keyser (one-mile run), Kevin Wills (high jump) and Ian Lettow (shot put) all posted wins for the Rams.
“We did some good things today,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “I was happy that we were more aggressive today. We raced smarter and seemed more composed in competition than in the previous meets.”
Despite finishing in second place, senior thrower Alex Godell had another impressive performance as he threw 65 feet, 5 inches in the weight throw. It marked his second consecutive week reaching the NCAA provisional mark in that event. In the shot put, the Rams finished in the top two spots with Lettow’s personal best of 16.44 meters, good for first place, and Tyson Williams finishing in second place (15.97 meters).
On the women’s side, junior Tanesha Johnson was outstanding again as she posted wins in both the 60-meter dash (7.66) and triple jump (12.21 meters). Her time in the 60-meter dash was a season best and the sixth fastest time in the Mountain West this season.
“Tanesha had a heck of a meet,” said Bedard. “She’s running really well right now.”
The Colorado State women were also strong in the throwing events as the Rams captured four of the top seven spots in both the shot put and weight throw. Missy Faubus posted a second-place finish in the shot put (14.78 meters) and a third-place finish in the weight throw (16.94 meters).
In the Air Force combined events meet, Doug Dieker finished in third place in the heptathlon while Jennifer Lehman finished fifth in the pentathlon.
The Rams will return to Lincoln, Neb., next weekend as they compete in the Husker Invite.
