CSU tennis heads to Nebraska to face Eagles, Huskers

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Colorado State women's tennis team heads to Lincoln, Neb., to face off with the Eastern Michigan Eagles and the Nebraska Huskers. The Rams are entering the weekend with a 1-2 record and are rejuvenated and ready for the competition that lies ahead.
"We are playing Eastern Michigan first, which is good because we will get used to the playing conditions in Nebraska," said Head Coach Jon Messick. "They are a good team and we are not going to overlook them. Compared to last week, we just are looking for improvement this weekend."
The Rams will face off with Eastern Michigan on Saturday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Eagles are coming off a loss, falling to No. 70 Oklahoma State, 6-1, during their first conference match of the season last Saturday. Eastern Michigan has endured a tough early season with all of its four losses to ranked opponents, including Nebraska.
"Nebraska is a real tough team, especially playing against them on their home court," said Messick. "It will be a hard match for us but I know we are ready and will play hard regardless."
On Sunday, the Rams will compete against the Huskers, who are entering this weekend with a perfect 15-0 all-time combined record against the Rams and Eagles. Last week, Nebraska won two matches, beating Wyoming, 7-0, and Drake, 6-1. The Huskers have two players ranked nationally in the ITA preseason polls. Freshman Mary Weatherholt is No. 94 and junior Wiveca Swarting is No. 118.
The Rams will hit the court at 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at the Nebraska Tennis Center to compete against the Eagles.
