CHULA VISTA, Calif. -- The Colorado State women's golf team shot a final-round 311 on Tuesday, to move up one spot in the standings and finish 13th at the Aztec Spring Invitational at the Salt Creek Golf Course.

After a rain-soaked second round on Monday, that saw action halted by high winds and heavy rain, Colorado State found themselves in 14th place out of 18 teams, but a strong push led by senior Stefanie Ferguson helped the Rams move up one spot after the final 18 holes.

Ferguson, who had fired rounds of 79 and 85 through 36 holes, stormed back with three birdies in the final round to finish at even-par 72 and jump from a tie for 66th into a tie for 38th.  Overall, Ferguson finished just one stroke behind the Rams' top finisher, freshman Melissa Martin, who shot a three-round 235 (+19) and placed tied for 34th in the 108-player tournament.

Junior Kasey Claussen, who entered the tournament with the top stroke average in the Mountain West Conference, shot rounds of 77, 82 and 79 and finished 22-over in a tie for 45th.  Freshman Brianna Espinoza closed out the tournament eight strokes behind Claussen in 72nd, while sophomore Natalie Stone (+31) rounded out action for CSU in a tie for 73rd.

As a team, Colorado State finished nine strokes out the top 10, just the second time they have finished out of the top 10 this season, with a three-round team total of 950 (+86).  San Jose State captured the team title, tallying a team score of 900 (+36).  UC Irvine (+42), San Francisco (+3), Arkansas-Little Rock (+57) and Texas Tech (+59) rounded out the top five.  UC Irvine's Hilary Packard took home medalist honors with a 2-over-par 218.

The Rams will take two weeks away from competition on the course and resume their spring schedule, March 2-3, at the Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif.
