ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Continuing its success within the Western Water Polo Association, the CSU Rams women's water polo team defeated Cal State East Bay, for the second time in two weeks, by a score of 10-6. The Rams then played Cal Lutheran, losing a tight game, 8-7.
The last victory for the Rams (7-8, 5-0 WWPA) against Cal State East Bay was still in recent memory as last week in Bakersfield, Calif., the Rams beat the Pioneers 12-11 in sudden death overtime. The Rams made quicker work of East Bay Saturday, winning 10-6 in regulation. Sarah Ostling led the way with four goals, and Orsi Nadasdy added two more. CSU also got goals from Aspen Rapp, Kailin Custy, Emily Chambers, and Ali Pavlik. The win kept the Rams perfect in conference play.
The Rams were certainly happy with the effort in the victory.
"It was an all around team effort," coach Mike Moody said. "We controlled the game from start to finish."
The second game of the day didn't go as well for the Rams, as they lost 8-7 to the Cal Lutheran Regals. The game was tied at the end of the first three frames, before the Regals edged the Rams by one in the final quarter. Pavlik scored a season-high four goals in the defeat.
Moody believes that the Rams definitely had a chance to win against the Regals.
"I think that if we played the game again, there would be a different outcome." Moody said.
The loss was a tough one for the Rams, as they slipped below .500 after getting back to an even record against the Pioneers.
The Rams will strive to remain unbeaten in conference Sunday, playing WWPA foe Cal State Monterey Bay at 10:20 a.m. MT and then non-conference opponent Pacific at 2:50 p.m. MT.
