Rams fourth through two rounds at MountainView Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Colorado State women’s golf team opened the MountainView Collegiate on Saturday with a strong showing, led by senior Stefanie Ferguson, and is in fourth place through 36 holes at the par-72, 6,263-yard MountainView Golf Course.
The Rams opened with a first-round team score of 297, and shaved three strokes during the second round to finish at 15-over in fourth place, one stroke ahead of Nebraska. No. 19 San Jose State (-5) leads the field, while No. 32 UNLV (+2) and No. 20 Louisville (+11) finished first, second and third, respectively.
“Today was a really good day, especially the second round.” said Head Coach Angie Hopkins. “Stefanie, Brianna, Melissa and Kasey all played really well this afternoon.”
Ferguson fired back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 during the first and second rounds and paces the Rams in a tie for 15th overall, while freshman Melissa Martin carded two rounds of 74 and closed the first day of action tied for 22nd at 4-over 148.
Junior Kasey Claussen tallied a 75 and a 74 in the first and second rounds, respectively to finish one stroke behind Martin in a tie for 29th. Freshman Brianna Espinoza bounced back from an opening 78, tying Ferguson with a round of 1-over par 73 to finish the day tied for 38th.
Junior Natalie Stone opened strong with a 75 in the first round, but struggled in the afternoon, tallying a Round 2 score of 81. She enters Sunday’s final round tied for 65th. Sophomore Cecilia Edlund, playing as an individual, shot an opening 80, but withdrew from the tournament in the second round after suffering an injury.
The Rams resume play Sunday morning with an 8:00 a.m. PST shotgun start.
