TUCSON, Ariz. – The Colorado State women’s golf team closed its regular-season slate on Sunday with a seventh-place finish at the 19-team MountainView Collegiate on the par-72, 6,263-yard MountainView Golf Course.

“Today was a bit of a struggle around the greens,” said Head Coach Angie Hopkins.  “The putts just did not fall consistently, but we were able to hold on for a top-10 finish which is very encouraging as we head into the conference championships.”

Despite the Rams’ shortcomings around the green CSU tallied a team score of 305 (+17) to finish ahead of three schools, No. 38 Colorado (T11th), No. 48 Michigan (eighth) and No. 49 Texas Tech (T14th), ranked in the top 50 nationally.  Nineteenth-ranked San Jose State took home the team title with a 2-over 866.  No. 32 UNLV (+11), No. 20 Louisville (+15), Indiana (+20) and Missouri (+21) rounded out the top five.  SJSU’s Erica Moston earned medalist honors with a 7-under 209.

Junior Kasey Claussen led the Rams with a final-round score of 75, to finish with a three-round score of 8-over 224, tying with freshman Melissa Martin (74-74-76) for 27th.  Senior Stefanie Ferguson led the Rams with a three-round total of 223 in 26th place.

Freshman Brianna Espinoza closed the tournament four strokes behind Claussen and Martin in a tie for 44th, while junior Natalie Stone fired a total score of 234 (+18) and finished tied for 72nd.

“We will have some time off to work on a few things as we prepare for the Mountain West championships,” added Hopkins.  “When the tournament starts we will be ready, and it will be anybody’s game.”

The Rams will face off against conference foes BYU, New Mexico, San Diego State, TCU, UNLV and Wyoming, April 16-18, at Bayonet Blackhorse Golf Course in Monterey, Calif.
