BOULDER, Colo. -- The Colorado State women's golf team dropped a close 45-38 decision on Saturday in a match-play event against the University of Colorado at the Boulder Country Club.

Freshman Brianna Espinoza and senior Stefanie Ferguson each picked up victories in their matchups for the Rams, but the Buffs rallied with victories over juniors Natalie Stone and Kasey Claussen to edge the Rams.

"We started off very strong with victories from Brianna and Stefanie, but Colorado played very well to come back with wins over Natalie and Kasey," said Head Coach Angie Hopkins.

Also competing for the Rams were freshmen Melissa Martin and Katelyn Negrelli, and sophomore Sarah Anast.

The event was added late in the season to give both teams a chance to play in another even after being rained out at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., March 2-3.

It also marks the Rams' final tuneup before the Mountain West Conference championships, scheduled for April 16-19 at the Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.

"This was a good opportunity for both teams to get in a few more rounds before playing in our conference championship tournaments," added Hopkins. "We hope to make this an annual event and look forward to hosting it in the future."
