CSU women finish 16th in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Colorado State women's golf team gave it their all at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Sunday but was not able to finish as strongly as they had hoped.
After being in 15th place on Saturday, the Rams slipped into 16th after the final round. They shot a team score of 307 during the last 18 holes, giving them a final score of 915 (+39). Pepperdine held onto first place ending with a score of 859 (-17). New Mexico remained second with a score of 866 (-10). Conference rivals UNLV and TCU tied for third with scores of 883 (+7).
CSU seniors Kasey Claussen and Natalie Stone finished first out of the Rams tied for 29th. Claussen and Stone had a three-round score of 225 (+6). Claussen began the tournament tied for 33rd, but improved during the second and third round helping her move up four places.
"Natalie and Kasey are seniors and led the team for our final round," commented Head Coach Angie Hopkins. "We have some work to do with everyone. We have two weeks to get ready for CU and we are going to get to practice."
Freshman Emily Roering, who was tied for 88th after the first round, moved up eight places to finish tied for 80th. Roering shot an 81 during the second 18 holes, but came back with a 77 (+5) during the last round. Her final score was 236 (+17). Sophomore Melissa Martin finished tied for 58th and sophomore Brianna Espinoza finished tied for 84th.
The Rams travel to Erie, Colo. for the Heather Farr/CU Memorial on Oct. 5-6.
