BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The Colorado State women's golf team completed the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in 12th place. The 17-team tournament marked the end of the fall season for the Rams.
Head Coach Angie Hopkins saw her team's performance as something to build upon.
"The team as a whole struggled but we will chalk this up to another learning experience," stated Hopkins.
CSU scored a 308 (+20) in Round 3 giving it a team total of 901 (+37). Arkansas held first place, finishing with a total of 846 (-18) followed by Kent State, scoring 869 (+5). Arizona dropped to the third-place slot finishing with a total of 872 (+8).
Junior Brianna Espinoza led the Rams during the final round with a score of 72 (E). Espinoza had a three-round score of 219 (+3) and tied for 18th. Freshmen Sarah Roering and Betsy Kelly both tied for 59th with total scores of 229 (+13).
"Brianna is proof you don't have to hit it long to score," added Hopkins. "She played very steady today and handled the difficult conditions extremely well. A top 20 finish in this field is quite an accomplishment."
The Rams will begin the spring season in February at the Gold Rush Invitational in California.
