CSU's Neal named MWC Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State tennis athlete Laura Neal has been named the Mountain West Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week, the MWC announced Wednesday.
Neal, a senior health and exercise major with a 3.93 GPA from Portland, Ore., earned two victories Saturday against Northern Arizona, playing at the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles.
Neal and teammate Caitlin Fluegge began the match with a doubles victory over the nation’s No. 35-ranked tandem, Orsi Golovics and MilaWahinepio. Neal then tied the team score at 2-2 with a singles win, after NAU took an early 2-0 lead. Neal defeated Golovics in a close first set 7-6 (5), then took match with a 6-2 second-set victory.
Neal becomes CSU’s first MWC Player of the Week in women’s tennis since March 20, 2007, when Emily Kirchem won the recognition. Neal becomes the sixth CSU player to receive the honor since the 2000 season.
