ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The Mountain West Conference indoor track championships kicked off Thursday at the Albuquerque Convention Center, and senior Kristen Kugler earned the first point of the meet for Colorado State with a third-place finish in the women’s pentathlon.
“This is an all-time best for Kugler,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “She also earned an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark.”
Kugler finished with 3,796 points, just ahead of two teammates, Cate Brus (3,337), who took ninth, and Sophia Wagner (3,200), who took 11th. Each athlete’s final score topped the Rams’ season high coming into the championships.
On the men’s side Josh McMillin sits in fifth position after completing four of the seven events in the heptathlon, and Kirk Cooper sits in eighth place.
The meet will continue Friday morning with the final events in the heptathlon and real-time results are available from www.themwc.com.
