RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Ali Pavlik picked up her sixth hat trick of the season in a 10-7 win over Claremont Mudd-Scripps as the Rams were able to bounce back from an 11-1 defeat against No. 10 Cal State Northridge earlier Sunday at the Redlands Mini-Tournament at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
CSU (5-11, 1-2 Western Water Polo Association) could not find the back of the net easily against Cal State Northridge, scoring just once during the second period on a goal by Lorene Vidal.
"We were faced with some difficulties," coach Mike Moody said. "I definitely would've liked to have seen more offensive production."
The Rams responded well, however, and were able to defeat Claremont Mudd-Scripps a few hours later, 10-7. Pavlik's hat trick, along with two-goal games by Kallie Berry and Caroline Young, powered CSU to the win. CSU scored four times in the final frame to pull off the come-from-behind victory.
"We let down in the second period, but we finished strong in the fourth," Moody said. Pavlik now has six goals in the last two days, giving her 32 on the season. Orsi Nadasdy made her first two career appearances in goal for the Rams, notching nine saves between the two games.
CSU will play twice again Sunday to finish off the tournament. The Rams face Cal Baptist at 9 a.m. MT, and then play Marist at 1 p.m. MT.
