ALEXANDRIA, Minn. – Colorado State freshman Sarah Roering won the Resorters golf tournament last week in Alexandria, Minn., at the Alexandria Golf Club, defeating the defending champion, Maggie Leland, 4-3 in match play.

Leland’s only other loss her senior year was to Roering in late May in St. Cloud, Minn. Last week’s contest was a close match toward the end, but Roering’s play through the front nine ultimately won her the tournament.

In 2008 and 2010, Roering was the Minnesota Class 2A state champion. She also earned first-team all-state honors (Minnesota Golf Association) from 2008-10. Her team at Minnewaska High School has won the state championship the past five years. Aside from golf, Roering also played basketball and ran cross country.

Roering, from Glenwood, Minn., is the sister of sophomore CSU women's golfer Emily Roering.
