LAS CRUCES, N.M.- The Colorado State women’s golf team earned its second straight top-five finish at the 16-team Price’s Give ‘Em Five Intercollegiate at New Mexico State University Golf Course. The Rams were in great position to contend for the championship but came up a little short.
“Our team struggled today, however, we are happy we put ourselves in position to win it,” said Head Coach Angie Collier.
The Rams finished the tournament with a three-round total of 880. Baylor took home the title with an 860, edging out Idaho (861) by one stroke. North Texas (875) was third. Long Beach State (883) finished in fifth behind CSU.
Despite a tough final round, Collier was optimistic about the tournament overall.
“Playing in the final three groups was a great experience and we are pleased with another top-five finish,” stated Collier.
Betsy Kelly was the Rams high finisher with a 214 (-2) and earned her third-straight top-10 finish. Kelly, who finished fourth, was only three strokes behind the co-champions Kayla Mortellaro (Idaho) and Jaclyn Jansen (Baylor). Brianna Espinoza earned her third top-20 finish of the season after carding a 220 and finishing 13th. Sarah Roering also finished 13th and earned her second top-20 finish. Emily Roering shot a 231 (+15) in her first tournament back from injury and Jessa LaBarbera posted a 235 (+19). Haley King shot a 243 (+27) as an individual.
Next up, the Colorado State women will look to duplicate their success when they compete at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Oct. 24th in Boulder City, Nev.
