COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Colorado State women’s golf team had the third lowest total (296) of the final round propelling it to fourth place at the 15-team Johnie Imes Invitational at Old Hawthorne.

“Our goal this morning was to move up into the top five and this team stepped it up,” said Head Coach Angie Collier.

Texas State held first from beginning to end and carded an 879 (+15) for the contest. Kansas State (+22) placed second trailed by Florida International (+29) and Colorado State (+36).

Collier was impressed with the play of Brianna Espinoza, Betsy Kelly and Sarah Roering.

“All three of these ladies carried our team this week,” said Collier. “Bri and Betsy had a chance to win it and it’s only a matter of time for each of these talented players.”

Espinoza and Kelly tied for sixth at 219 (+3) for the tournament and guided the team to its first top-five finish of the season. Kelly carded a 70 (-2) in the final round to help her jump 11 spots from 17th. Roering also had an inspired third round with her second consecutive 72, finishing with a 225 (+9) for the competition. Jessa LaBarbera (+21) and Christina Spinzig (+33) rounded out the team’s scores.

Lejan Lewthwaite (-4) of Texas State captured the title over her teammate Krista Puisite (-1). Illinois State’s Brianna Cooper (E) finished third followed by Gianna Misenhelter of Kansas State and Iman Nordin of Texas State, both at +1.

The Johnie Imes Invitaional gave each team the option to donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for every birdie it recorded. Collier and the Rams generously donated for the 33 birdies they carded.
