FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The Colorado State women’s basketball team won against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux, 58-52, at Moby Arena on Thursday night. The Rams are now 2-0 against North Dakota all-time.

North Dakota came out scoring a three-pointer in the first few seconds of the game, but Colorado State then went on an 11-5 run to lead the game from there on. The Rams’ biggest lead of the night was 11. The Fighting Sioux were only down by three in the last few moments of the game, but the Rams held out for the win.

“We were ready to win this game,” said freshman LaDeyah Forte. “We played more as a team tonight.”

Forte started the game, playing 38 minutes and ended up with a career-high 10 points. She also recorded two assists and four steals with only one turnover. Sophomore Sam Martin scored 12 points for the night. Junior Meghan Heimstra increased her percentage nearly 10 percent on the season, shooting 4-4, from the free throw line. Heimstra also boarded 11.

“LaDeyah did a great job again,” said Head Coach Kristen Holt. “That’s a tremendous responsibility for a freshman.”

Senior Kim Mestdagh scored 11 points and had eight rebounds. Last year Mestdagh scored a game-high 32 points at Grand Forks, N.D.

“We were just sick of losing,” said senior Kelly Hartig. “I don’t think any of us were going to let this slip away.”

The Rams were up by only three at half-time, 30-27, and North Dakota never gave up throughout the entire game, but the Rams took advantage of the Sioux’s 19 turnovers, scoring 21 points.

“I think it’s really important for the moral of our team,” said sophomore Hayley Thompson.

The Rams have little time to rest, having a game this Sunday returning to Moby Arena vs. Maryville at 1 p.m. Tickets are available in person at the McGraw Center box office, online at CSURams.com, or by calling 1-800-491-RAMS.
