FULLERTON, Calif. - The CSU women's tennis team took on its third and final dual of spring break play Saturday with a 7-0 sweep over Eastern Washington.
Colorado State extended its streak to two matches while increasing its season record to 6-5 (0-0 MWC). The loss forced Eastern Washington back to a 5-11 (1-4 BSC) record.
"Anytime you sweep a team, everyone has to play well," said Head Coach Jon Messick. "The whole team played well. The dual could have been a lot closer."
Unlike most duals, Saturday's match began with singles play instead of doubles. The adjustment was made due to poor weather to ensure enough matches to decide a dual winner.
In singles, the Rams notched six consecutive wins over the Eagles.
The wins allowed Veronika Wojakowska, Lauren Mulhern, Kaley Schultz and Melissa Holzinger to the wins improve their spring-break records to 2-1.
"At the top of the lineup there was a solid effort that was obviously better at top of line up than yesterday which was a good turn around."
The Rams' only struggle was at Nos. 2 and 4 singles where a third set was played in order to notch a win.
In doubles, Colorado State went on to sweep Eastern Washington 3-0. The three wins only solidified the Rams victory further for the day, ensuring a 7-0 sweep.
The Rams' next home match is expected to be hosted at Colorado State's new outdoor tennis facility on Friday against Weber.
