Women's golf recap: Rams finish sixth at MWC championship

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – The Colorado State women’s golf team finished its final round at the Wigwam Golf course on Saturday. The Rams worked hard, but dropped to finish in sixth at MWC championship.
CSU freshman Betsy Kelly led the Rams on Saturday, scoring a low-round score of 70 (-2) in Round 3, finishing with an overall total of 213 (-3) and moving her up to tie for second place. UNLV’s Therese Koelbaek held the first-place
position, scoring a low-round score of 68 (-4) and an overall total of 209 (-7) on Day 3.
“Betsy was definitely in the hunt to win it but Koelbaek just played unbelievable for UNLV,” stated Hopkins. “I am very proud of Betsy for hanging in there and putting herself in position to win.”
Colorado State junior Brianna Espinoza was second for the Rams, scoring a 74 (+2) in Round 3, finishing with an overall total of 222 (+6) and placing her tied for 15th.
“Brianna played solid this week,” added Hopkins. “We will wait to see if she qualifies for regionals.”
The Rams scored a total of 292 in Round 3, finishing with an overall team total of 889, placing them in sixth place of seven teams. TCU moved up to take the first-place position, scoring a total of 284 in Round 3, and an overall team total of 865. UNLV moved to take second place with an overall team total of 870, followed by BYU (882).
“The team improved every day,” added Hopkins “And that is very exciting for our future.”
