Women's golf preview: Rams head to New Mexico

The Colorado State women’s golf team will head to Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend to compete in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The tournament, hosted by the University of New Mexico, will take place at the UNM Championship Course.
The par-73 UNM Championship Course will play at 6,137 yards. The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes on Sunday and the final 18 holes on Monday. Both days begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. MDT.
The 18-team field will have three top-30 teams, No. 22 Peperdine, No. 26 Iowa State and No. 30 TCU. Also competing are CU, DU and Wyoming, among others.
The Rams’ lineup will be Brianna Espinoza, Betsy Kelly, Sarah Roering, Cecilie Krefting and Christina Spinzig. Jessa LaBarbera will be competing as an individual in her first event as a Ram.

The Rams would like to improve on last year’s 12th-place finish at this event. Roering and Kelly are getting their second look at the course. Meanwhile, Espinoza looks to continue her personal success at the UNM Championship Course. Last year, Espinoza finished with a 223 (+7) and finished 19th.
Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic...
The Rams held on to seventh place at Ptarmigan a couple of weeks ago, among strong competition from the largest field ever at their home event.
Espinoza was the Rams’ high finisher with a score of 220 (+4), good enough to tie for 13th. Kelly finished tied for 17th with a 222 (+6), Roering tied for 44th with a 228 (+12) and Spinzig finished tied for 67th with a 236 (+20). Freshman Haley King competed as an individual and finished with a 246.
