Women's golf recap: Rams finish in 10th place

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Colorado State women's golf team concluded play at the 18-team Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course Monday. The team was able to move up from 12th, at the end of the day Sunday, to secure 10th after a three-round score of 912 (+36).
Sophomore Betsy Kelly was outstanding and led the way for the Rams. Kelly finished tied for seventh and carded a 1-over 220 for the competition. Head Coach Angie Collier was pleased with Kelly's performance.
"Betsy had a great tournament," Collier said "She hit 74% of her fairways and 69% of greens in regulations."
Baylor took home the team title, finishing at 11-over for the tournament. TCU and Denver finished four strokes back tied for second, while Northwestern finished fourth at 16-over.
New Mexico's Sofia Hoglund was able to hold on and secure first at her home course with a 3-under 216. Hayley Davis (Baylor) was one stroke back followed by Sammi Stevens of New Mexico (-1).
For the Rams, Brianna Espinoza and Sarah Roering both carded 220 (+9) for the tournament followed by Christina Spinzig (+17) and Cecilie Krefting (+21). Jessa LaBarbera was 19-over in her first event as a collegiate golfer.
Collier was satisfied with the 10th place finish but still sees room for improvement.
"As a whole, our team has some work to do before our next tournament," stated Collier
Next, the Rams will be at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. on Oct. 3.
