FORT COLLINS, Colo. – In addition to the three players signed in November, the Rams have added AJ Newton. Head Coach Ryun Williams made the announcement Wednesday.

A 5-3 guard and native of San Jose, Calif., Newton will join the Rams as a junior. She previously attended San Jose State and earned all-WAC honorable mention as a freshman. She then transferred to Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, Calif., where she awarded Most Valuable Player in the Coast Conference, first-team all-conference, first-team all-state JCs and was the Foothill women’s basketball co-captain and team MVP. While with the Owls, she averaged 20.7 points and 3.0 assists per game. Newton is a 2010 Valley Christian High School graduate and played with the Mission Rec and EBX club basketball team.

“AJ will give us a very dynamic and explosive guard with great playmaking and scoring ability,” added Williams. “AJ is all about winning and comes from a very well coached and winning junior college program. Her tough and competitive mentality will be fun to coach.”

Newton will join Gritt Ryder, Emilie Hesseldal and Elin Gustavsson in the fall of 2013 at Colorado State.

The Rams anticipate signing four more athletes to complete their 2013-14 roster.
