CSU women's golfer Kelly, Spinzig earn WGCA honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Women’s Golf Coaches Associations (WGCA) announced Monday its All-American Scholars for the 2013-14 season and a duo of Colorado State seniors were among the 664 collegiate golfers recognized in Divisions I, II and III.

For the second consecutive year, Betsy Kelly and Christina Spinzig were both named to the prestigious list, which boasts some of the most stringent criteria in college athletics, requiring the student-athlete maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50.

Kelly, who graduated in May with a degree in business administration, competed in seven tournaments for the Rams, with her best finish coming at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower invitational (Sept. 23-24). In 21 rounds, the native of Forest Lake, Minn., averaged 77.1 strokes per round, which ranked second on the team.

Spinzig, a graduate with a business administration degree who hails from Evergreen, Colo., represented CSU in 10 tournaments, recording one top-20 finish and averaging 77.7 strokes per round, which ranked third on the team.
