Final Stats

SAN DIEGO – The 20th-ranked Colorado State volleyball team improved to 4-0 in league play with a 3-0 sweep over the San Diego State Aztecs at Peterson Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The CSU (11-3, 4-0 MW) held San Diego State (4-12, 1-3 MW) to just .048 hitting for the match, including a -.026 mark in the second set.

CSU and SDSU were tied early in the first set at 5-5, but then the Rams scored six of the next seven points to jump out to an 11-6 lead. CSU would hold the lead the rest of the way, enduring a charge from the Aztecs that cut CSU’s lead to 17-15 midway through the set. CSU responded with the next four points, including an ace from Adrianna Cublert, and went on to take the first frame, 25-18.

The Rams kept rolling into the second set, taking a 5-1 lead early after a pair of kills from Alex Reid. Acacia Andrews added to the CSU point total with an emphatic kill at the net after a free-ball from the Aztecs, and CSU would gain a 17-9 lead, forcing an SDSU timeout. Right out of the break, Reid would save a point for the Rams, and then Sanja Cizmic and Alexandra Poletto would team-up for a block to give CSU the point after the rally. CSU would go on to win the set 25-15 after holding SDSU to -.029 hitting in the period.

The Aztecs led much of the third set, taking a 17-13 lead midway through the frame. CSU stormed back to take the next four points, and CSU would score 12 of the final 16 points of the period to win the third set 25-21 to clinch the match.

• Alex Reid led the Rams with 10 kills, and she also added eight digs.
• Alexandra Poletto was the Rams’ most efficient attacker, recording five kills on .444 hitting (5-1-9).
• Adrianna Culbert provided a team-high 17 assists for CSU, and also added eight digs, two blocks and two aces.
• Acacia Andrews again led the Rams in blocking with five (one solo), and also gave CSU six kills on .333 hitting.

NEXT UP:
CSU will return to Moby Arena to host New Mexico on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT and then Air Force on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT. The match against Air Force will serve as CSU’s “Pink Out” match, to encourage breast cancer awareness.
