FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Colorado State women's basketball Head Coach Ryun Williams on Wednesday announced that four players signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Rams for the 2016-17 season.
Colorado State's 2016 class, Williams' third at CSU, features three guards and one forward hailing from three different states and one other country, continuing to add to Colorado State's diverse program.
"This is a very skilled and athletic class," Williams said. "They are all high character young ladies that will add and grow the winning tradition we have established here at Colorado State University."
Colorado State's class includes one of the premier players in the state of Colorado, Liah Davis, a 6-2 forward from Sand Creek High School. Davis is rated as a three-star prospect on ESPN and is ranked as the 61st best forward in the nation. A Colorado Springs native, Davis is a three-time all-conference honoree and has helped lead her team to three-consecutive Pikes Peak Conference titles. Davis owns the school single-season records in points (1,027), field goal percentage (.810), rebounds (325) and blocks (68).
"Liah has a very good feel around the rim, has unbelievable hands and is a very good rebounder," Williams said. "Her size and ability to finish inside will give us strong interior play. It is great having one of Colorado's elite apart of our program."
The Rams also bring in a pair of club basketball teammates from Sacramento, Calif., Tia Hay and Grace Colaivalu. Hay, a native of Melbourne, Australia, and Colaivalu are both members of the JBS club basketball team, one of the premier AAU programs in the state of California. Hay is also rated as a three-star prospect and the 27th best point guard by ESPN.
"Tia is a natural scorer. I love the intelligence and maturity she plays with as well as her ability to make plays at the rim and from the perimeter," Williams said.
Colaivalu meanwhile comes to the Rams after completing a very successful junior campaign for Rosemont High School. As a 5-9 guard, Colaivalu led her team with 18.0 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game, while also contributing defensively with 4.9 steals per game and 1.2 blocks per game. Her stellar play landed her a spot on the Sacramento Bee's all-metro team.
"Gracie is a very explosive play maker and loves making those around her better," Williams said. "Gracie is a very good floor general and can flat out pass the ball. She has an unbelievable motor. Her size and versatile skill set will fit in nicely here at CSU."
Rounding out the Rams' 2016 class is Jordyn Edwards, a 5-10 point guard out of Lynnwood, Wash. Edwards is a three-star prospect and ranked as the 27th best point guard in the nation by ESPN. A two-sport athlete, Edwards earned all-league honors her sophomore and junior seasons in basketball, helping the team to three-consecutive conference championships and a state title her junior year. In track, Edwards is a state champion in the 400 meter and 4x400 relay and holds the school record for the 200 meter (25.13), 400 meter (55.34) and long jump (17' 8.5").
"Jordyn is a very dynamic athlete and a proven winner," Williams said. "We love the fact that Jordyn is a multi-sport state champion and knows what it takes to win. Playing for her father, as well as for one of the most elite club programs in the country, has given Jordyn a great understanding of the game. This young lady will be a game-changer with her elite athleticism."
Colorado State's 2016 class has accumulated a total of three state titles, six conference championships, seven all-conference selections and two all-state selections.
