FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State women's golf finished seventh in the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, closing Tuesday with a team score of 894 ( 30).

Individually, sophomore Sarah Archuleta was the Rams' top performer, scoring 220 (plus-4) and finishing eighth out of 90 competitors. Junior Elisabeth Rau also posted a top-20 finish, closing at 222 (plus-6) and in 15th place. Competing as an individual, senior Mikayla Tatman tied Rau for 15th place and a plus-6-score. She shot a team-best plus-3 (75) on Tuesday.

The tournament was Archuleta's first-ever top-10 finish. It was Rau's third career score in the top 20, and fourth for Tatman.

While there were several positives that came out of the season-opening tournament, head coach Annie Young felt her team could have finished stronger. Through two rounds, CSU sat at 4-over and tied for second in the standings. CSU shot 4-over in Round 1 and even in Round 2 before carding a 26-over during Round 3 on Tuesday.

Wind was a factor, as no teams finished better than plus-6 during Round 3, but Young still felt like expectations got to her team.

"I just don't think we handled the situation well," she said. "The going got tough and we didn't respond. The conditions were tough, but it wasn't impossible. We need to work on our putting in the wind."

Making their Rams debuts, junior transfer Brianna Becker finished plus-11 - shooting par in Round 2 - while freshman Katrina Prendergast eagled on Hole 13 during Monday's opening round. Both Prendergast and sophomore Allie Andersen finished plus-15.

BYU ( 12) won the 17-team tournament, followed by San Jose State ( 16), California ( 24), San Francisco ( 27), Long Beach State and Boise State ( 28), Colorado State ( 30), Texas Tech ( 31), Fresno State ( 37), Idaho ( 39), Northern Colorado ( 42), East Tennessee State ( 50), Kennesaw State ( 51), Portland State ( 56), Nevada ( 65), Wyoming ( 74) and UC Irvine ( 77). Texas Tech's Sarah Brown (-4) won the individual title, followed by Elizabeth Schultz (San Jose State, even) and Hannah Sodersten (Fresno State, even).

CSU will have two weeks before being back in action, traveling to Portland, Ore., for the Rose City Collegiate.

"Any time you get in contention it's a good thing," Young said. "I hope we're right back in contention in Portland to see how we handle it. There was a lot of good golf this week. We have work to do, but I think we're going to be a good team come midseason."
