LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
Colorado State had a strong first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown on Sunday, shooting a 2-over 290 during the opening round. Senior Elisabeth Rau led the Rams with a 3-under 69 - a career-best mark. Her score is tied for 11th out of 105 golfers. Rau carded four birdies and just one bogey among the 18 holes.

Sophomore Katrina Prendergast shot an ever-par-72, followed by sophomore Caroline Reiners, who shot a career-best 2-over 74. Senior Brianna Becker and freshman Ellen Secor each posted 3-over 75s during the opening round. Overall, CSU carded 13 birdies, in addition to an eagle by Becker - the only one shot by any player on Sunday.

The 2-over 290 is tied with Nebraska for 11th place, ahead of seven teams - including three Mountain West foes. The Rams are just one stroke behind Missouri for 10th place.

CSU is playing at the Boulder Creek Golf Course, where a year ago it set several school records, including the best round and best tournament score in school history. The tournament continues with Round 2 on Monday and a final round Tuesday. Live scoring can be tracked on BirdieFire.
