Recap: CSU improves on Day 2 of Bay Area Intercollegiate

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Colorado State improved its score by 11 strokes on Tuesday, during the second round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate, to finish the tournament with a 31-over 607. CSU shot a 21-over 309 on Monday before improving to a 10-over 298 on Tuesday. The tournament was originally scheduled to have three rounds, but the second round on Monday got canceled due to weather.
"We made some progress today, but it wasn't our finest tournament of the year," head coach Annie Young said. "We left some shots out there."
Freshman Katrina Prendergast shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to finish with a 3-over 147 on the week. Her score was tied with Washington's Charlotte Thomas, who is ranked 31st in the country by GolfStat. Among the 68-person field, Prendergast tied for 14th, her third top-20 performance in a row and the fourth of the season.
Allie Andersen tied for 25th with a 7-over 151, while CSU's three other golfers each moved up on Tuesday. Sarah Archuleta rose seven spots to 32nd with a 2-over 74 on the day and 8-over 152 for the tournament; Elisabeth Rau jumped six spots with a 3-over 75, finishing with a 13-over 157; Brianna Becker improved by 11 strokes on Tuesday, shooting a 4-over 76 and finishing with a 19-over 163.
CSU was the only school in the field to have multiple eagles, with Archuleta and Prendergast each eagling on Hole 1 on Monday. The Rams had 113 pars, which were the fourth-most.
Overall, the Rams finished in 12th place, ahead of UC Davis (47-over 623) and behind No. 14 California (7-over 583), No. 33 Colorado (10-over 586), Oregon State (15-over 591), Indiana (16-over 592), No. 26 BYU (18-over 594), No. 11 Washington (20-over 596), Gonzaga (21-over 597), San Jose State (23-over 599), No. 48 San Francisco and Coastal Carolina (26-over 602), and Pepperdine (27-over 603).
CSU returns to the course next weekend for the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. (March 18-19).
""We have to go into each tournament with the attitude that we want to win the tournament," Young said. "When we play our game we're a pretty good team. That got away from us this last week; we need to stick to the process."
