Recap: Rams impressive in opening tournament of fall at Creighton

CSU won five flights total during the opening fall tournament
OMAHA, Neb. – The Colorado State women's tennis team opened the 2017 fall season this weekend with an impressive performance at the three-day Creighton Bluejay Invitational. The Rams snagged victories in both doubles flights, and won the first three flights of singles.
In Flight A singles, the Rams had sophomore Alyssa Grijalva and freshman Priscilla Palermo competing. The duo picked up a combined four victories out of five contests. Palermo, who made her NCAA debut, won three matches two against the host Creighton, in straight sets to claim the Flight A bracket. Grijalva dropped her first match, but held on to her second contest after winning the first set she snagged a 10-8 tiebreaker to advance in the consolation bracket.
Both sophomore Sandra Keta and Emily Luetschwager won their flights for Colorado State. Luetschwager won her tightly contested second match after pulling the tiebreaker (7-6 (4), 6-1), and finished as the champion after a straight set victory (7-5, 6-1) against her foe from Creighton. Keta in her first matchup of the flight forced three sets after dropping the first (4-6, 6-2, 6-2), and then rattled off two straight set victories.
The Rams won both doubles flights with all three pairs from CSU winning matches during the tournament. The Rams won eight of nine doubles contests they played in with the pairs of Alyssa Grijalva/Emily Luetschwager and Sandra Keta/Emma Corwin winning in each of the flight championships matches, and Alyssa Grijalva/Emily Luetschwager wining the Flight A doubles consolation side.
The Rams will host the Jon Messick Invitational next weekend beginning Friday at the CSU Tennis Complex. Attendance to the tournament is free and fans can follow csurams.com or follow the team on twitter @csuramstennis for updates.
