FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head women's golf coach, Annie Young, announced two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday. Saga Traustadottir and Sydney Smith will join the Ram squad next season following their final year of prep.
Sydney Smith | Las Vegas, Nevada | Faith Lutheran HS
Smith is no stranger to success as she is a 2015 Regional and State Champion, including a 2017 State Champion. She also holds the lowest 18-hole girls golf score at Faith Lutheran with a 65 and the lowest 9-hole score for boys and girls, carding a 30. Besides being a four-year letter winner, she is also a four-year All-Region, -City and -State selection.
Chose Colorado State because… "I chose Colorado State because I fell in love with Fort Collins, the campus, and the friendly atmosphere. I fell in love with the energy of the golf team and the coaching staff. I feel the academic advisors will help ensure my success while being a student-athlete."
Sage Traustadottir | Reykjavik, Iceland | Salaskoli and the Commercial College of Iceland
Traustadottir brings many years of success to Colorado State from Iceland. She was a member of the Icelandic National Team in 2014 for the European Young Masters U16 and also The Duke of York and European Girls Team Championship in 2016. In 2017 she was part of the European Ladies Team Championship and European Ladies Amateur Championship. The Reykjavik native was also named Icelandic Women's Most Promising Young Player of the Year in 2015.
Traustadottir was also the 2016 Icelandic U18 Stroke Play Champion and won the final tournament on Iceland's Elite Golf Tour. She is also a three-time Icelandic Stroke Play Champion and the winner of the 2015 and 2016 Women's Team Championship of Iceland.
Chose Colorado State because… "I am convinced that attending CSU will enable me to reach my maximum potential over the next four years, both academically and in golf. CSU is a great school with an academic system that suits my academic ambitions for the future. Moreover, CSU has a really good women's golf team headed by Coach Annie Young who I believe is a fantastic coach. I know that working with her and playing for CSU will enable me to develop my golf game over the next four years. I am convinced that attending CSU and playing college golf will lay a solid academic foundation for me, and be the stepping stone for my future, allowing my dreams of becoming a professional golfer to come true."
"I'm am very excited about our 2018 class and what they are going to add to our program," said head coach Annie Young. "Both Sydney and Saga have had great junior careers. I feel very fortunate to have these two young ladies joining the Ram family. I have no doubt that they are going to make an immediate impact on our program."
