Mounsey joins CSU after All-America season at Seward County Community College;
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team has signed Mollie Mounsey to a national letter of intent, head coach Ryun Williams announced on Thursday.
Â
The 5-foot-10 guard will compete for the Rams beginning with the 2018-19 season and will have junior eligibility. The native of Follett, Texas comes to Fort Collins from Seward County Community College, where she was an NJCAA First-Team All-American.
"Mollie can flat out shoot it," Williams said. "Her ability to stretch the defense from the three-point line is tremendous, and she's also a very tough and competitive young lady with a great basketball mind. She'll be joining us from one of the best junior college programs and coaches in the country, and will definitely add to our CSU winning culture."
Â
Mounsey stacked up as one of the top long-range shooters in the nation in her freshman campaign at Seward County CC, as her 143 three-point field goals made were the most of any women's basketball player in the nation among any Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA school. The only athlete to make more threes – women's or men's at any level – was South Plains' Jordan Brangers (153), who signed with CSU men's basketball on Wednesday.
Â
Mounsey averaged 19.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the 2016-17 season en route to her NJCAA First-Team All-America honors. Behind her three-point shooting prowess, she scored in double digits 34 times last season, including 18 performances with 20 or more points. She tallied a career-high 40 points against Garden City on Feb. 27, connecting on a career-best 10 three-pointers on 16 attempts (13-of-20 overall). The native of Follett, Texas made five or more three-point field goals 12 times in 2016-17.
Â
In addition to her NJCAA First-Team All-America honor, Mounsey has been named the NJCAA National Player of the Week three times and the Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week as many times. She was also honored for her work in the classroom, as she was named to the SCCC Fall Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
Â
Mounsey was a four-time District MVP and was an All-State athlete in basketball at Follett High School. Also a top athlete in track & field and softball at Follett, Mounsey was a two-time state champion in throwing events and was a four-time All-District athlete in softball.
