Recap: Rams begin MountainView Collegiate in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. - After completing competition on Tuesday in California, the Colorado State women's golf team returned to Colorado to take exams on Wednesday before leaving for Arizona and a practice round on Thursday. On Friday, the MountainView Collegiate Invitational began with the opening round.
CSU is one of seven teams with two golfers in the top 20, with freshman Ellen Secor tied for eighth (1-under 71) and sophomore Katrina Prendergast tied for 17th (1-over 73). Overall, there are 75 golfers competing.
Despite the strong play by Secor and Prendergast, however, CSU is in 12th place out of the 13-team field, with the rest of the Rams' lineup no better than 67th place. Overall, the Rams shot a 22-over 310 on the day.
Prendergast had a team-most three birdies, followed by Brianna Becker with two. Secor had just one birdie but did not shoot above par on a single hole during Round 1.
Arizona is the leader through one round, carding a 10-under 278. The Wildcats hold an 11-stroke lead over second-place New Mexico State (1-over 289), followed by UNLV (2-over 290), Houston (3-over 291), Kansas State and Missouri (4-over 292), Central Arkansas (6-over 294), Ole Miss (8-over 296), Oklahoma (11-over 299), Middle Tennessee State and North Texas (19-over 307), CSU (22-over 310) and Redlands Community College (30-over 318).
Round 2 begins Saturday at 12:30 p.m., with the final round taking place on Sunday. Live scoring can be tracked through Birdie Fire.
