CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Colorado State men's golf team rallied in the afternoon round and is sixth through 36 holes of the Cowboy Classic, April 10. Hosted by Wyoming University, the two-day, 54-hole tournament is being played at Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course (Par 72 – 7,334 yards) in Chandler, Ariz.

Back 10 shots from the leader, CSU shot a 4-under 284 in the afternoon round, a 10-shot improvement and the second-best score for the 18, to move up six spots to a tie for sixth at 2-over 578 with UC Davis. Long Beach State shot a 9-under 279 in the second 18 and is the second-round leader at 9-under 567, four shots ahead of UC Santa Barbara in second at 5-under 571. Kansas is third at 3-under 573, with Wichita State in fourth at even-par 576. Sacramento State completes the top five teams in the 18-team fielda t 1-over 577.

Senior Logan Iverson is tied for 42nd at 3-over 147, with sophomore Pierce Aichinger tied for 97th at 14-over 158.

"We didn,t get off to a great start," head coach Christian Newton said. "Any time you count a 78 is going to hurt. But the boys responded great in the afternoon and moved up six spots. Jake was steady all day and has a chance to do something special tomorrow. Yates made eight birdies in the afternoon to rebound nicely. Blake and Max fought hard to grind out good rounds without their "A" games. I'm looking forward to great day tomorrow."

Long Beach State's Joe Fryer and Aaron Beverly of Sacramento State are tied for the individual lead at 7-under 137, two shots ahead of Brenden Bone of Air Force and UC Santa Barbara's Zach Smith in third at 5-under 139.

The final round will start tomorrow at 7:30 am in a shotgun start.
