Schmidt to handle publicity for the Rams’ volleyball, softball and women’s golf programs

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State University department of athletics has hired Jeff Schmidt as a communications coordinator, as announced by assistant athletics director Paul Kirk. Schmidt will direct publicity efforts for the Rams' volleyball, softball and women's golf programs.

Schmidt brings over three years of communications experience to his new role at CSU. Most recently, Schmidt spent a year working in communications at Oregon State University, serving as the primary contact for OSU softball, which qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2017, as well as for the Beavers' women's soccer and women's swimming programs. As OSU's softball contact, Schmidt worked side-by-side with four-time Olympian and head coach Laura Berg.

Prior to his one-year stint at OSU, Schmidt held the position of assistant athletic communications director at Southwest Minnesota State University for nearly two years. Among his accomplishments at SMSU were three successful All-America campaigns, as well as the recognition of 11 all-region and 20 all-conference athletes. Schmidt was SMSU's primary contact for volleyball, softball, women's basketball, wrestling and tennis, as well as the Mustangs' secondary contact for football and men's basketball.

Schmidt began his postgraduate career in athletics as a sports information intern at Bethel University, his alma mater. He graduated from Bethel in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in communications, and added an MBA with a concentration in marketing from SMSU in 2016. Schmidt was the captain of the football team at Bethel, and was named a Second-Team All-American in 2013.
