CSU Women's Golf Hires Tommy Baker as Assistant Coach

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Head women's golf coach, Annie Young, has announced the addition of Tommy Baker to the staff as an assistant coach.

Baker comes to Colorado State after spending the last four seasons at Saint Leo University as the head women's golf coach.

"Coach Baker is going to be a big edition to our program in regard to recruiting and coaching," said head coach Annie Young. "He has proven to be very successful as a coach while at St. Leo and I look forward to him and his family joining us here in Fort Collins."

Under Baker's guidance, the Lions qualified for the NCAA South Super Regional in each of his four seasons and his 2015-16 squad earned the program's first team qualifier into the national championships – finished in a tie for fourth place. His also led seven WGCA All-Region selections, three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, three CoSIDA All-District honorees, seven Sunshine State Conference All-Conference selections and two Sunshine State Conference Golfers of the Year. Baker also set multiple school records including: lowest team round – 279 (-9), lowest team 36 holes – 571 (-5) and lowest individual round – 66.

Baker also coached standout Marie Coors during his tenure, who in 2016-17 was the NCAA Individual National Champion, PING WGCA National Player of the Year, Honda DII Golfer of the Year, NCAA Elite 90 Award Winner, Sunshine State Conference Golfer of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year.

"I am very excited to join the Colorado State University family," said Baker. "I am also very thankful to coach Young for providing me the opportunity to be part of her program."

Before his tenure at Saint Leo, Baker spent time at Coker College and the University of North Carolina – Pembroke.

"I just want to do my part to help us achieve even more success in the coming years," continued Baker. "I'm extremely thankful for my past opportunities and players I coached to help prepare me for this level."

Baker earned his bachelor degree in exercise and spot science from UNC – Pembroke in 2006 and his masters in physical education with a concentration in sports administration in 2008.
