Maddie Ward re-breaks 200 breaststroke school record

HOUSTON -- Sophomore Maddie Ward broke her own school record in the 200 breaststroke and helped push CSU to a sixth-place finish at the Phill Hansel Invite on Sunday at Houston's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.

CSU began the day in seventh place after two days of competition. The Rams leapfrogged Washington State on Sunday, finishing 4.5 points ahead of the Cougars (600-595.50).

Ward placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:12.55 -- 0.01 seconds faster than her time in prelims. Ward had previously set the 200 breaststroke record at the Mountain West Championships a year ago, finishing in 2:12.82.

Haley Rowley gave the Rams a strong result to start Sunday's events, placing second in the 1650 freestyle (16:32.58).

Tonicia Thomas took sixth in the 200 backstroke (1:58.97) and Rowley equaled the result in the 200 butterfly (2:01.96).
