Rams sweep past Utah State

11/8/2018 10:17:00 PM | Volleyball

LOGAN, Utah – The Colorado State volleyball team picked up its 10th consecutive win with a sweep over Utah State on Thursday night. The Rams have defeated the Aggies in the last 28 contests, including nine-constructive sweeps and twice this season.

Both teams started the match trading points before Colorado State worked up a four-point lead at 13-9 – the largest lead of the frame. Utah State tied the set at 17-17 and again at 20-20 as the Rams used a timeout. After the break, CSU went on a three-point run to lead 23-20 late and forced Utah State to use its final timeout. The Rams finished the set on a 5-0 run to take the opening frame.

Colorado State jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set and led the rest of the way. The Rams increase their lead through the frame to a set-high nine at 17-8, which was partly due to CSU recording four blocks. Utah State wouldn't quit so easy, despite Colorado State earning set-point at 24-14, the Aggies came back on a nine-point scoring run before the Rams finished the set 25-23.

The Rams took care of business in the third set, leading 10-3 before cruising to a 25-10 win. CSU used 7.5 blocks in the final frame, while hitting a match-high .480.

QUOTES
Head Coach Tom Hilbert on the match…
"We didn't play our best match, but we haven't played in seven days so we were trying to get acclimated again. We served the ball well and as the match went on, we got better at blocking. I thought we played pretty well in the third set and in the second set we were playing well up until we made a couple subs and gave up some points. We were fortunate we were playing in a situation like this and we have to play even better on Saturday and we will."

STAT OF THE DAY
The Rams finished the match with 12.5 blocks after beginning with just one in the first set and seven in the third.
