Oleksak sets record in road-win against Broncos
11/10/2018 5:20:00 PM | Volleyball
BOISE, Idaho – Junior setter Katie Oleksak dished out a program-record 61 assists in a 3-1 victory at Boise State on Saturday afternoon. Oleksak's 61 assists is the most in a four-set match in modern scoring and betters her previous record of 59, which she set against Fresno State in 2016.
Colorado State trailed by one at 5-4 before going on an 8-1 tear to take the lead – which it would hold the rest of the set. The Rams built a set-high 18-10 advantage before cruising to a 25-14 first-set score.
The Rams trailed against early in the second set, but took a two-point lead at 10-8 after a five-point scoring run. Boise State tied the frame at 12-12 as both teams traded points through the heart of the set. The set was tied at 20-20 before Boise State knotted the match at one set apiece, finishing with a 5-2 run.
The Broncos charged out to a 7-1 lead in the third set, but the Rams fought back to tie the frame at 11-all. CSU then manufactured a 9-2 run – which included six consecutive points – to lead 21-18. Both teams exchanged points as Colorado State took a 2-1 match lead, taking the third set, 25-21.
The final set was unusual as both teams had huge scoring runs. The Rams started the frame taking a 6-1 lead, but it didn't last long as Boise State responded with a 10-1 run to lead 11-7. Colorado State replied with a 13-0 run with Paulina Hougaard-Jensen serving, to lead 20-11. From there, the Rams cruised to a 25-15 fourth-set win to record their 11th consecutive win.

Head Coach Tom Hilbert on the match…
"The match a lot of different ebbs and flows to it. We started off passing and serving well, which gave us a cushion. Once we had those point cushions, Boise State was losing its composure. The second set was tight and I thought we were going to win it in the end, but we had a few hitting errors. In the third set was another tight frame and we had to comeback from being down. In that set, we didn't hit well, but we got back to serving tougher and created problems for the Broncos. The final set was one of the stranger sets I've played in as both teams had huge runs in a total of six rotations, which is unheard of. It was a strange final set, but fun to play in since we had some really nice runs."
