Williams earns 400th career NCAA win in 91-38 victory over Chadron State

Rams shoot 62.3 percent from the floor, the No. 4 single-game field goal percentage in program history

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams earned his 400th career NCAA win as the Rams defeated the Chadron State Eagles, 91-38, in the team's nonconference finale on Saturday afternoon from Moby Arena.

Williams' 400 NCAA wins include a program-best 142 wins at Colorado State, along with 76 wins as head coach at South Dakota and 182 at the helm of Wayne State (Neb.). Williams' CSU (6-5) squad shot 62.3 percent (33-for-53) as a team from the floor against Chadron State, the No. 4 single-game field goal percentage in program history, en route to the 10th-largest margin of victory in CSU history (53 points).

Five Colorado State players scored in double digits, paced by a team-high 19 points from junior guard Mollie Mounsey. Also in double figures were sophomore guard Lore Devos (18 points), freshman guard Taylor Mole (11 points, team-high seven rebounds), senior guard Myanne Hamm (10 points) and sophomore forward Lena Svanholm (10 points). Sophomore guard Grace Colaivalu tallied a career-high 12 assists and added four points and six board. Additionally, Colaivalu's 12 assists are the sixth-most by a CSU player in a single game in program history.

Colorado State (6-5) scored the first points of the game on a three from Hamm and never looked back, leading for 38:34 on Saturday. From a 5-4 lead shortly after, CSU went on an 18-1 run, and took a 23-8 advantage to the second quarter.

CSU added a 21-point second quarter en route to a 44-18 lead at the break thanks to 65 percent shooting from the floor in the first half. The offense remained hot for CSU in the third quarter, with a game-high 27 points over that 10 minute stretch. The Rams cooled to 45.5 percent shooting in the fourth quarter, but that remained efficient enough to outscore the Eagles by 13 in the final period and secure the 53-point victory.

STAT OF THE GAME
With the win on Saturday, Colorado State finishes nonconference play with a 6-5 record. This marks the sixth consecutive season that the Rams will enter Mountain West play with a record above .500.

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"A nice, solid performance after a long break here for the Christmas break. You just always wonder how your team's going to come out and respond after a little bit of a layoff. I thought our kids came out with nice energy and had a really good first quarter. A lot of different kids played well, shot the ball, made a lot of good basketball plays today. This was a good, solid win for us."

On his 400th NCAA win:
"I did not know where I was at, so this doesn't feel any different than the win the other night. The biggest thing is that we've got to go 1-0 on Wednesday (vs. UNLV). That's the most important game for us. But I know your question, and nobody gets to that point without really good assistants and really good basketball players that do a lot of good work. That's all it is, and that I've been doing it a fairly long time. I'm just proud of the way the kids played today."

NOTES
  • Saturday's game marked the first time that five Rams have scored in double figures in the same game since Jan. 14, 2017, when the Rams did so in a win at New Mexico.
  • Before Saturday, sophomore guard Grace Colaivalu had a career high of eight assists. That performance came vs. Colorado on Dec. 6, 2017.
  • Colaivalu's 12 assists are the most by a single CSU player in a single game this season.
  • Colaivalu has led the Rams in assists in seven games in 2018-19.
  • Freshman guard Taylor Mole's 11 points and seven rebounds were each collegiate bests.
  • Saturday was the first time Mole has led the team in rebounding in a game this season.
  • Junior guard Mollie Mounsey led CSU in scoring for the fifth time this season
