Redshirt senior Marybeth Sant clocks a 60 meters time of 7.26, breaking Janay DeLoach’s all-time program record set in 2006
GOLDEN, Colo./USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Redshirt senior Marybeth Sant broke the all-time Colorado State record in the women's 60 meters to highlight performances for the Rams at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi held from Steinhauer Fieldhouse on Friday. The Rams were also in action at the Air Force Holiday Open, which is held from the Cadet Field House Indoor Track.
Â
Sant's time was 7.26, following a preliminaries time of 7.31. The redshirt senior broke the record formerly held by former CSU great and Olympian Janay DeLoach, who set the original record in 2006, also with a time of 7.31. In addition to the program record, Sant's time ranks as the sixth-best in Mountain West history. Freshman Briyana Bunson debuted in the 60 meters at Air Force with a  time of 7.69, which ranks 15th on CSU's all-time indoor list. Sophomore Jasmine Chesson opened her 2018-19 campaign with a time of 7.85 in the 60 meters, which ranks 20th all-time at CSU. On the men's side, freshman Germain Barnes clocked a time of 8.24 in the 60-meter hurdles, which ranks 19th on CSU's all-time indoor list.
Â
The highlight of the night in field events was in the women's shot put, where the Rams saw two of the program's all-time top-10 marks en route to a one-two finish. Junior Maria Muzzio registered a mark of 51-1 (15.57m) for the win, and became CSU's No. 8 all-time indoor performer in the event with her result. Sophomore Tarynn Sieg placed second with a mark of 50-10.25/15.50m, and moved up to ninth on CSU's all-time indoor list with her performance.
Â
Colorado State also took the top three spots in the women's weight throw, highlighted by Sieg's winning mark of 59-3.5 (18.07m). The Eaton, Colo., native's mark ranks 15th on CSU's all-time indoor list. Senior Linnea Jonsson was second with a mark of 59-1/17.09m, while Muzzio placed third (55-7/16.94m). On the men's side, sophomore Bradly Wright scored 4,434 points in the heptathlon, while freshman Sam Duchow-Pressley tallied 4,354. Wright score ranks 15th in program history, while Duchow-Pressley's is 17th.
Â
Other event wins included a first-place finish for sophomore Nick Borne, who clocked a time of 2:34.76 to come out on top in the men's 1,000 meters. Sant added her second individual event win of the day with a first-place finish and time of 38.44 in the women's 300 meters. Freshman Lauren Gale was second across the line in the 300, finishing in 38.73. Rounding out personal-best performances was a pole vault mark of 11-5.75 for freshman Maddie Wilson, which ranks her 17th on CSU's all-time indoor list.
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"What Marybeth (Sant) did today didn't surprise me a whole lot. It just seems like she wants to finish out her career at Colorado State really well and leave her mark on the program. It's been good to see her so focused and so passionate about her preparation, and while it's not a huge surprise to me given the work I've been seeing, it's good to see it happen. We had some lifetime bests throughout the event areas, and I think anytime you have that at your first meets it's nice to see. It was a little bit of a mixed bag, but I think overall we had enough good things happen to be excited. We've got some things to work on, but it's a good starting point for us."
Â
NOTES
- Redshirt senior Nick Kravec scored 5,634 points competing unattached at the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi. While his score is not official, former All-American Hunter Price (5,996) was the only CSU athlete to ever score more points in heptathlon competition.
- Senior Jose Lopez competed unattached in the men's 60-meter hurdles, but clocked a time of 8.08. While Lopez's time is not official, only 10 Rams have ever officially run a faster time.
