Kelcey Bedard, Josie Spitz post top marks for Rams in first meet in just over a month

BOULDER, Colo. – Performances in the weight throw and the pole vault headlined action for the Colorado State track & field team at the Potts Indoor Invitational on Friday from the CU Indoor Practice Facility.

The top individual performance belonged to senior Kelcey Bedard, whose mark of 64-7.75 (19.70m) in the women's weight throw was the best in Friday's field by over eight-and-a-half feet. The Rams took the top three spots in that event, with senior Linnea Jonsson and sophomore Tarynn Sieg placing behind Bedard with respective marks of 55-11.25 (17.05m).

Junior Josie Spitz matched her indoor best in the pole vault to top Friday's field, clearing 12-5.5 (3.80m) en route to winning the event by nearly half of a foot. Freshman Maddie Wilson also matched her indoor collegiate best (11-5.75/3.50m) for a third-place finish. Spitz's mark ranks sixth on CSU's all-time indoor list, while Wilson's is 17th.

On the men's side, junior Bailey King topped the men's weight throw field with a best throw of 60-0.50 (18.30m). CSU freshmen Adam Dawson (55-9.25/17.00m) and Weston Wright (54-2.5/16.52m) followed in second and third place, respectively. Sophomore Beau Gordon threw the weight 53-1 (16.18m) to finish off a 1-2-3-4 sweep for the Rams in the event. Rounding out top performers for the Rams in men's events was freshman Cory Taylor, who won the long jump with a mark of 22-3 (6.78m).

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"I think we got off to a good start coming back off of the break. We're always particularly concerned with technical events, in terms of whether our athletes have lost their sharpness. I think enough of our athletes came back early and trained over break that I don't think we fell off a whole lot going into the break. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how we got started today."

NOTES
- While Kelcey Bedard's mark was shy of her personal best in the women's weight throw, only four other Rams in program history have a better mark than she registered on Friday.
- Josie Spitz's previous indoor pole vault mark of 12-5.5 (3.80m) was at the Air Force Invitational on Jan. 27, 2018.
