Kyles will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, beginning with 2019-20 season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team has signed Marlee Kyles to a financial aid agreement, head coach Ryun Williams announced on Monday.
Â
Kyles will have three seasons of eligibility remaining upon joining Colorado State, and will compete as a redshirt sophomore beginning with the 2019-20 season. Most recently, the 5-foot-7 guard competed for the University of Arizona, and was the first player in program history to score at least 60 points over her first five games since 2003.
Â
"We are very excited that Marlee has chosen to be a Ram," Williams said. "She really knows how to play and possesses a great ability to score the basketball. Marlee has played in a lot of high-level Division I basketball games and her experience will really help our roster. We are looking forward to her joining our program, competing in practice this spring semester and getting used to life as a Ram."
Â
Out of high school, Kyles was rated the 23rd-best guard in the nation by ESPN. While at Elgin High School, Kyles was a 2,000-point scorer, and set school records for career points (2,039) and most points in a single game (50). As a senior in 2016-17, Kyles averaged 28.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.2 steals per game.
Â
Among the accolades Kyles received while at Elgin was the Courier-News (Chicago) 2016-17 Girls Basketball Player of the Year, first-team Class 4A Associated Press All-State distinction and a runner-up finish for Ms. Basketball Illinois.
Â
As a freshman at Arizona, Kyles was third on the team in scoring with 8.1 points per game and averaged 24.4 minutes played per game. The Elgin, Ill., native scored in double digits 10 times for Arizona during the 2017-18 season, including the Wildcats' games against Utah (twice), at Stanford and at home against Washington.
Â
Kyles is the second player set to bolster the Rams roster in 2019-20, joining incoming point guard Katia Stamatelopoulos (Adelaide, South Australia).
