Rams junior guard Mollie Mounsey and sophomore forward Lena Svanholm each score 11 points against the Sun Devils
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team fell to the No. 17/19-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils, 70-39, on Sunday afternoon from Moby Arena.
Â
Sophomore forward Lena Svanholm tallied 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting and added a team-high six rebounds in her first collegiate start. Colorado State (4-4) also received an 11-point effort from junior guard Mollie Mounsey, who shot 3-for-7 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Lore Devos scored eight points and tallied a pair of assists for the Rams.
Â
Arizona State (7-2) heated up from three-point range early and used it to seize control of the game, making four triples over the first five minutes to jump out to a 14-5 lead. ASU extended its lead to 11 at the 3:54 mark of the first quarter, and while the Rams cut the deficit back to nine twice, the Sun Devils never led by fewer than 11 for the final 32:36 of Sunday's game.
Â
Despite a quality fourth quarter for Colorado State, Arizona State had outscored CSU, 20-7, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The Rams had matched the Sun Devils with 12 points apiece over the final 10 minutes of the game, led by Svanholm, who poured in eight of those points on 4-for-7 shooting in the final quarter.
Â
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Ryun Williams
"Obviously they're a very good basketball team. They're deserving of their 17th ranking. Their personnel is talented, and it was very, very disruptive today, end of story."
Â
On the first quarter and ASU's pressure defenseively:
"They came out really shooting the basketball. It's disappointing we didn't locate No. 22, (Courtney) Ekmark. She's obviously the No. 1 kid on the scout when we're zoning, and we were just really slow getting to her early. They had a really good shooting first quarter, and after that they probably shot normal. But we had some opportunities as well, and just didn't run very good offense today. Their pressure had some things to do with it, but we've got to be able to compete against that and not let their pressure make us flat. That's what happened today."

UP NEXT
The Colorado State women's basketball travels to Provo, Utah to face the BYU Cougars on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT from the Marriott Center.
