CSU takes doubles point, Luetschwager and Palermo win singles matches
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The shorthanded Colorado State tennis team fell to the Weber State Wildcats, 4-3, at the CSU Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Rams (9-7) were only able to field five players in their singles lineup, automatically forfeiting at No. 6. CSU did take the opening doubles point to knot the match at 1-1 entering singles action.
Sophomore Riley Reeves and junior Emily Kolbow had a fantastic performance at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-0. Freshmen Emily Luetschwager and Priscilla Palermo followed up with a 6-4 win on court No. 1 to seal the doubles point for the home side.
Weber State jumped ahead 3-1 with the first two singles victories on courts 4 and 5, but Luetschwager kept the Rams alive with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Patty Kuo in her first match at No. 1 singles.
The Wildcats clinched the match on court No. 3 in straight sets, but Palermo did give the Rams one more point with a tight three-set victory over Caitlin Herb at No. 2; 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
"We're playing good doubles, so that's definitely one positive from this weekend," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We need to continue doing that and get healthy. We'll be ready for conference. We just need to put in the work the next few days before we play Utah State on Thursday."
CSU will begin the bulk of its league schedule on Thursday at home versus Utah State (3 p.m. MT). The Rams will also host Boise State next week (Sunday, 10 a.m.).
