Rams’ Marybeth Sant runs No. 8 100 meters time in program history against the wind; Kelcey Bedard tops 200 feet in hammer and throws within a foot of CSU’s No. 10 discus mark

GREELEY, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team was led by its sprinters and throwers as the Rams wrapped up their second weekend of the outdoor season at the Tom Benich Invite on Saturday at Nottingham Field.

Leading performances by the sprinters was Marybeth Sant, who clocked the No. 8 time in program history running against the wind. Sant finished the 100 meters in 11.80 (w: -1.0), while Jasmine Chesson finished in 11.99 (w: -1.0) for second place in the event and 13th place on CSU's all-time outdoor list.

Destinee Rocker was the Rams' top runner in the women's 200 meters, clocking the No. 18 time in program history (24.82, w: 1.9) for fourth place (No. 3 collegian). The freshman was also the top finisher in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a wind-aided time of 13.40 (w: 4.4). Rounding out top performances in women's hurdles was a first-place finish and time of 1:00.95 for Emma Kratzberg in the 400 hurdles.

Kelcey Bedard finished within a foot of her personal best and the No. 10 mark on CSU's all-time outdoor list in the discus, as she took first place with a best throw of 173-0 (52.73m). Bedard also topped 200 feet in the hammer for the second straight week, winning the event with a mark of 200-6 (61.12m). Linnea Jonsson was second in the hammer (196-3/59.83m), while Aimee Larrabee was third (188-6/57.45m). Maria Muzzio won the women's shot put for the second consecutive meet, taking the top spot with a mark of 47-11 (14.60m).

On the men's side, the Rams went one-two in the shot put, highlighted by an outdoor-best mark of 56-4 (17.17m) for Austin Blaho. Alex Blaho took the runner-up spot with a top throw of 53-9.25 (16.39m). Notably, freshman decathlete Eric Lundgren placed sixth with a mark of 49-7.25 (15.12m), a new collegiate best and the best by any decathlete on the roster. Bailey King (160-7/48.95m) took first place in the discus and was the Rams' highest finisher in the hammer (184-11/56.37m).

Ronald Sayles won the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 20.89. The sophomore's time was wind-aided by 4.4. Nathan Gish, who received that same wind aid, was the No. 2 collegian behind Sayles with a time of 21.48.

Colorado State had the top collegian in each of the men's hurdles events. Jalen Hunter clocked a time of 14.96 (w: 1.8) for the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles, while Darius Smith (52.47) took the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles.

Each of the aforementioned Sayles, Hunter and Smith combined with Blake Yount to win the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:17.50. Hunter ran the anchor leg, outrunning Colorado Mines' (3:17.75) Triston Sisneros by a quarter of a second down the stretch for the win.

Highlighting other field events was Talia Marquez's performance in the long jump, as she won the event with the No. 11 mark on CSU's all-time outdoor list (18-10.5/5.75m, w: -1.4). The Rams also earned their second straight individual victory in the women's high jump, as McKenzie Wright took first place with a mark of 5-7.75 (1.72m), while Autumn Gardner cleared 5-6.5 (1.69m) for second. Gabby Smith was the top women's pole vaulter, clearing 12-1.5 (3.70m).

IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard
"We had a good day, although we had some cool temperatures and some wind conditions that were tough to deal with. We had some PRs in the sprints and the shot put, so that was good to see. I thought we built off the first weekend, which was what we were looking to do. We continued to improve in several areas, and I think our staff and athletes were pretty upbeat with how everything turned out."

NOTES
- Colorado State freshman Jackson Morris competed unattached in the javelin, but took first place with a top throw of 207-4 (63.19m). Because he competed unattached, his result is unofficial; however, had it counted, he would have ranked as the No. 7 performer in program history in the event.
- Only three other athletes in program history other than Kelcey Bedard have a hammer throw of 200 feet or better.
