Sr. Assoc. A.D. for Compliance Shanker will add SWA responsibilities to her current role

FORT COLLINS, Colo.Colorado State University Director of Athletics Joe Parker announced today that senior associate athletics director for compliance Shalini Shanker will add the designation of senior woman administrator to her current set of responsibilities. The SWA responsibilities were previously handled by Christine Susemihl, who recently retired after 45 years with CSU Athletics.

Shanker, in her 10th year with Colorado State Athletics, was promoted to senior associate athletics director for compliance in December 2017 after previously serving as an associate A.D.

"Shalini has made significant contributions to the success of CSU Athletics during her tenure and continues to be a thought leader on our campus, within the Mountain West Conference and inside the NCAA committee structure," said Parker. "She will make a seamless transition into the role as our SWA and bring care and attention to the oversight of our women's programs."

Shanker joined the CSU staff as assistant director of compliance in June 2009. She was promoted in 2012 to associate athletics director for compliance. She has served as the sport administrator overseeing the CSU softball program, and will now add women's basketball and volleyball to her responsibilities. Shanker also previously oversaw women's soccer.

A driving force behind the creation of Rambition in the fall of 2013, Shanker has helped mold the group that empowers CSU's female student-athletes by striving to enhance the experiences they have as both students and athletes, while cultivating a network among one another and women in the community. The overall purpose of the program is to help female student-athletes leave Colorado State University as stronger individuals prepared for the next chapter of their lives.

Shanker works with every area of the department in overseeing CSU's compliance with NCAA and Mountain West rules and regulations. She and her staff educate coaches and administrators on NCAA legislation and rules interpretations, in addition to serving as the liaison to admissions, financial aid, housing and the registrar's office.  Working with student-athletes before and after they first arrive on campus, she oversees their eligibility and, when necessary, creates applications for NCAA and Mountain West waivers.

A 2012 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute, Shanker also serves on the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee and the NCAA Division I Softball Committee. She is a past member of the NCAA Interpretations Committee and has served as a National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) ACE Mentor.

Shanker came to Fort Collins from the University of Florida Athletic Association, where she served as a compliance assistant from 2006-08. Prior to that, she worked as a graduate assistant in the compliance office at Kansas, her alma mater, from 2004-06.

Owner of two degrees from the University of Kansas, she earned a bachelor's in psychology ('03) and a Juris Doctor ('06) from the institution's School of Law. Previously affiliated with the Kansas Bar Association and the American Bar Association, she is licensed to practice law in the Federal District Court in the District of Kansas and in the state of Kansas. She also works with the Minority Opportunity Athletic Association, Women Leaders in College Sports and the National Association for Athletics Compliance.
